CHARACTER
Name: Ylva Wolfsdottir.
True Name: (undecipherable wolf noises)
Canon: Original, D&D 5th edition homebrew universe
Age: mid twenties, she's really not sure
History: Once upon a time a human lady had a half-elf child by an asshole elven noble who was slumming it, and abandoned it in the woods rather than continue to try to bear the shame of a halfbreed child out of wedlock. Fortunately, the toddler was found and adopted by the local pack of wolves and raised alongside their current litter of pups. Ylva does not remember this. As far as she knows she has always lived in the forest with her family (who happen to all be wolves, but that's fine), living as a wolf and being very happy until an elderly elven druid noticed there was a feral child running around with the wolves. He proceeded to tame her, and he mostly sort of succeeded, in that he taught her how to speak, how to read and write, how to fight, and the basics of druidic nature-based magic, but failed on things like manners, social skills, or an understanding of things like money, history or politics. She's also never stopped insisting that she is a wolf, or at least she's a wolf by adoption, which is practically the same thing. Eventually she got old enough and restless enough to listen to her elf mentor's suggestion that she go out into the world and explore the side of herself that is not a wolf, where she got briefly involved in a bit of mercenary work and then ended up in the company of an assortment of friends who didn't mind her absolute inability to act like a human being half the time, and then they were employed by a wizard to find his missing tower. Skipping over something like THREE YEARS of campaign, it turned out the whole thing was actually a job interview and she and her friends have currently been accepted as agents for a group seeking to provide refuge for people escaping persecution. She mostly lives in the woods just outside town.
Powers/Abilities: As a druid, she has access to all spells up to the 5th level. She has the cantrips Druidcraft, Poison Spray, Produce Flame, and Primal Savagery. It's ridiculous, I'm sorry. Obviously many of these need to be nerfed, esp. anything that involves summoning a spirit or animal, and that one spell where she can just create a new, randomly determined body for a dead person, and several that involve creating vines or plants. Quite a few spells are useless here, because there are no animals or plants around to cast them on. In addition, she has the ability "wild shape," wherein she can take the form of any animal she has had the chance to observe in person. Because of shenanigans, this includes a (smallish) allosaurus, because they're not extinct in her world and she met one once. She likes this shape. Please do not nerf the ability for her to turn into a dinosaur. In practice, for the purposes of this game, Ylva will mostly be able to shapeshift and do some elemental and/or weather related magic, with some healing magic and the occasional miscellaneous spell in there. She can also see in the dark, has a pretty good sense of smell even when she's not in a smell-based animal shape, and is good with a sword and shield.
Inventory: Leather armour (practical, scuffed, does not include boots), a nice cloak, a curved scimitar-like sword, a wooden shield, a purse with an assortment of gold, silver, and copper coins, her druidic totem (a bundle of carved bone, feathers, fur, and leather, the focus of her spellcasting), some shiny rocks that she thought were cool.
Job History: Wolf. Responsibilities: hunting, watching younger pups. Skills: hunting, tracking, howling, biting.
Druid: Responsibilities: guardian of the woods, keeper of natural balance (note that Ylva takes a "nature is red in tooth and claw" approach rather than an "all things in harmony" approach). Skills: Magic (see above).
Adventurer: Responsibilities: solving problems for people who can't, murdering people, finding lost objects, occasional very badly enacted heists to retrieve stolen objects. Skills: sword fighting, camping, high speed chases, the need to think on her feet.
Suppressions: Fear of ending up alone: a constant struggle. Desire to behave like a normal human/elf: ignored entirely, she does whatever comes into her head. Urge to conform: a constant struggle with the former one, usually a losing struggle. Understanding of humans: very poor. Ability to read social situations: extremely poor. Remembering to think before she acts: also a struggle.
Greatest Fear: Tossup between being trapped and being alone.
Greatest Desire: To belong.
Greatest Regret: Honestly, she rarely dwells on either the past or the future, there is only now, but probably the time she found the control device for a construct, summoned it to come to her without thinking it through, and when it came directly to her by walking directly through the walls of several buildings before the local authorities managed to restrain it, and then when the party was questioned her complete inability to lie in any believable way got her and her friends arrested and then they had to break out of jail and now they can never go back to Sigil. That was not a great day for her. She is very glad her friends forgave her. She knows she needs to think things through better.
