Human! Quite possibly, human with injuries (as of arrival he has a couple gnarly animal bites). Maybe shaving cream.

When human, something will smell off about him and vaguely big-cat like. When he's a cougar, he smells like expected, but with a mild touch of human scent sometimes clinging to him if he's freshly transformed. If he's halfway between transformation, the scent is a mishmash of the two.

While human: weirdly... nothing? Very faintly of cat but otherwise largely lacking any identifiable scent. (Still locatable via scent alone, but good luck trying to describe it)
