She wraps her hands around his, head tilted slightly to one side, and frowns, more puzzled than anything.

"Yeah, of course. It's good?"

"It's good," he reiterates as his smile starts to give away his excitement. He's so bad at keeping good news a secret.

"But important. Because... I've been thinking about what I want for the future. I want you to be part of that future, with me."

She goes still, because she's not exactly sure where this is going. He said it was good, though, and she will believe him.

"I want to be part of it, too. What have you been thinking about?"

In his nervousness, he hunches in just a little. He can't help it when he's about to drop the word that's been looming on the tip of his tongue. "Marriage. I've been thinking about marriage. I... I want to ask you if that's something you'd want. With me?"

Her eyes go wide, her hands clenching a little around his. This is so incredibly unexpected that for a moment she just stares, trying to put words together.

The first thought that Ylva manages to blurt out is, "But I can't be a wife," and to her credit she immediately makes a face and course-corrects. "No, that's not what I mean. I love you so much but do you want me to have a wedding and come live in a house and... and I don't know what else but all of that... Honestly that part sounds awful. All the parts that aren't you."

He's glad when she corrects herself before he does. He smiles, gentle and a little amused by her fluster.

"Ylva, that's why I'm asking you. I expected you might feel like this but, well, I'm planning to ask Valdis the same question and it's not fair to you if I don't ask how you'd feel about it. If she says yes then we might eventually do a big wedding thing. Just because she wants that doesn't mean you have to, though. I love you both no better or less than one another but we also have very different ways of living in love. So, like, is there some kind of token we could wear instead, to show that we're mates? I want whatever will make you happy. I want to be with you for all of my life."

Ylva is silent and still, a hundred thoughts running through her head before she gives herself a little shake. "I'd like that," she says, in a small voice. "Like jewellery or something? A ring or a necklace or an earring..." That doesn't matter. That doesn't matter at this point. "You're my mate even if we do live apart. I like that being... official."

"I like that being official too," he presses his forehead against hers with a contented sigh. "I love you so much. I'm so honored to call you my mate."

He hums lightly still pressed face to face with her. "Do you think an earing might still stay on me when I transform into a wolf? Oh!" He sits up suddenly, the proverbial light bulb going off overhead. "I know! Let's go ask Sheo at his tattoo shop. He does body work too. And he's magic. He's the one who did my tattoo. I bet he could craft something that would stay on even when I shift forms. What do you think?"
